ATH-M50x Buying Guide: Professional Monitor Headphones

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is a standard professional monitor headphone widely used by studio engineers globally [S1, S2]. It features 45mm CCAW voice coil drivers designed for high-resolution playback with wide-band, flat characteristics [S1, S2]. The closed-back design utilizes oval-shaped earcups to enhance sound isolation for comfortable, long-term monitoring [S1, S2]. For practical use, it includes a 90-degree swiveling earcup mechanism for convenient one-ear monitoring [S2]. It also comes with detachable cables using a bayonet-lock mechanism, providing three options: a 1.2m coiled cable, a 3.0m straight cable, and a 1.2m straight cable [S2, S3]. A folding mechanism and a dedicated pouch are included for portability [S2, S3]. Buyer feedback highlights high-frequency clarity and overall balance, though some users have reported strong clamping force (pressure on the ears) and noted that bass definition can vary [S2]. Please note that this model does not feature active noise cancellation, so external noise leakage may be a factor during commutes [S2].
